Bread, Buns, Baking and Beer….Hands on Baking at IREKS We headed off to Kulmbach, Germany with a group of 16 customers to spend some time at leading international manufacturer IREKS recently. They specialise in the production and distribution of improvers and mixes for bread, morning goods, confectionery products and malts. More than 2,500 employees work in the IREKS Group to supply customers in 90 countries.
On day one IREKS gave us a warm welcome and showed us their award winning presentation about the company history, ethos and future. Following that it was straight to the Test Bakery for a presentation on the broad confectionary range with plenty of baked goods to sample and new ideas to come away with. To walk off the calories we were then taken on a tour of some of the production areas and laboratories where all the latest technology is in use to ensure continuity of premium quality products. We ended the working day with some hands on baking using the Gluten Free range.
Day two began with delicious breakfast in Kreuzer’s, a local bakery, and a tour behind the scenes to see how the German’s do things. We then headed to the Bakery Museum for a very informative private tour of the artefacts, many of which were supplied by IREKS which was founded in 1856. Back at HQ we were then shown the mind blowing automated production, storage and logistics areas.
The final supper was an amazing evening at Zwernitz Castle. It was a traditional Franconian feast, with music by Ralf the colourful accordion player. Food was aplenty, beer was flowing and the hospitality was outstanding.
IREKS, also owners of the Kulmbacher brewery, kept customers’ thirsts quenched throughout the trip treating them to this well renowned beer….
Everyone came away from the trip with a wealth of innovative/fresh ideas and very full bellies!
Danka IREKS, bis zum nächsten Mal.
